  | MUGHAL POWDER HORN (Priming Flask) India, early 17th Century Ivory, L. 9 1/2 inches leaping gazelle leads a fantastical procession of beasts and birds along the arc of this exquisitely carved ivory priming flask. A horn of nearly exact similarity appeared in a recent Christie's London sale. The auction catalogue made mention of another example in P.Pal, Elephants and Ivories in South Asia, 1981, cat. no. 85. The present example bears a fine patina consistent with use, some minor losses and old restorations.
