  | FRANCISCO VILLA Typed letter signed, five pages, 4to. Monterey, Mexico, March 18, 1915 In Spanish with modern English translation HIS extraordinary letter was written by Francisco Villa in Monterey to Emiliano Zapata in Cuernavaca. The letter outlines in great detail what Villa had been up to from January 17, 1915, when he had disarmed an enemy brigade of over 1600 men with a company of only 50 of his own at Queretaro, to March 17, 1915, when he battled against the followers of Carranza at Villa de Ramones.
At one point in the letter Villa writes, 'General Arroyo, one of our praiseworthy companions defeated the enemy near the Vanegas and was fortunate enough to seize Almanza and the leaders and officers. They were all either executed by a firing squad or hanged.' Later he says, 'All of this explanation will make you perfectly understand how active we have been...At the same time, it will allow you to understand that there is no willingness on our part not to send you the elements you desire...I do not have enough ammunition for myself...' Finally, Villa proclaims, 'I assure you that as soon as I can travel toward the south of the Republic, I will be glad to help you, because, as you know, I consider you and all the members of the 'Liberating Army' as loyal friends, who will never compromise with the enemies of our people and who will heroically fight with me until we lose our lives or make the sacred ideals of the Revolution come true...Many intriguing and treacherous men have tried to reach me in order to instill distrust and suspicion in me regarding you; but I assure you with all the candor of my heart that I have never given credit to any of them. That I should harshly punish those that attempt to divide us, that I shall hold for you the same feeling of friendship and fondness and that I am still the same friend that you had the opportunity to meet in Mexico City.'
Acquired a decade ago in Mexico City, this important letter from one of the greatest figures in modern Mexican history to another is typed on official stationery bearing the imprint Correspondencia Particular del General Francisco Villa and is boldly signed by him.
