HIS exquisite drawing, one of two or three Mount did of this subject, is in our opinion, the finest of the lot. This image of Henry Mount is so delicately achieved it almost seems to have been breathed onto the page.

William Sidney Mount was the finest of America's genre painters, having fixed upon our imagination indelible images of various character types inhabiting mid 19th century rural America. But this image, so finely spun as to be almost incorporeal, suggests it may have emerged from Mount's deep involvement with Spiritualism.
